(MENAFN - Arab News) Work on the long-awaited king abdulaziz project for public transport in riyadh is going full steam and keeping to its schedule said riyadh gov. prince khaled bin bandar.
he said the public transport system would be operational within 48 months.
five work sites pertaining to the project were officially launched by the governor earlier this month. he assured residents that traffic flow would remain smooth during the implementation of the project.
prince khaled who is also head of the committee overseeing the project said that thousands of workers assigned to the project have begun flocking to the kingdom while others will follow based on work needs.
the governor made his observation following a meeting at his office to discuss and update the committee on the work in progress.
'the committee holds a monthly meeting to ensure that the project is being implemented on schedule" he said. 'a committee study is also exploring the possibility of altering school timings."
'the issue of changing timetables will be discussed in the coming weeks" the prince said.
several measures have been taken and alternative solutions applied to reduce the impact of traffic diversions.
riyadh deputy gov. prince turki bin abdullah bin abdul aziz vice president of the high commission for riyadh development (hcrd) and ibrahim sultan head of planning at the hcrd were also present at the meeting.
