Qatar Trade Policy Review Achieves Remarkable Success /1/


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) The final statement said the Qatari market is open to all products noting that most of Qatar's trade is based on the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) principle. It also pointed to the slight increase in the application of the unified customs tariff within the framework of the GCC Customs Union which was implemented in January 1 2003.

While thanking the State of Qatar for taking steps and procedures in order to make their tariffs totally consistent with WTO rules the session's chairman urged the State of Qatar to continue to implement the broad reforms it has been carrying out and to improve its obligations within the framework of the multilateral trading system to promote transparency and predictability to support the credibility of the its trade system.

He called on member states to support the State of Qatar through the provision of adequate technological assistance including assistance related to capacity building in the field of trade and opening of their markets to the Qatari products.

Meanwhile HE the Minister of Economy and Commerce Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani stressed in a speech he gave on the occasion that the State of Qatar continues to fulfill its international obligations towards the World Trade Organization to deepen and activate its participation in the organization and help in the success of its role in the tasks entrusted to it especially the success of the negotiations on the Doha Development Agenda and the activation of the Trade Facilitation Agreement. He said the output of the Bali meeting become an integral part of the Doha agenda out of the belief in the importance of international and regional cooperation and the establishment of a Global Trading System (GTS) based on sound economic and trade fundamentals.

He stressed that Qatar is committed to developing all its Qatari human resources and drew up a clear agenda to achieve this goal which is in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and which is stipulated in the Constitution of Qatar.

HE the Minister of Finance and Commerce said "our laws and systems ensure a decent living for all people involved in our country's development and the State of Qatar will be doing what it can to ensure the health security and safety of all those taking part in the growth of its economy." The Qatari delegation memebers were received at their residence in Geneva high delegates ambassadors and WTA high-ranking members who flocked to the headquarters of the Qatari delegation to congratulate them on the great success in their mission related to the review of the economic and trade policy of the State of Qatar.
