(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) The congress was opened by Chairman of Friends of Environment Centre Dr. Saif Al Hajari with a speech in which he stressed that this congress the first of its kind is part of the national project for the classification of insects in Qatar which will have a good effect and a real addition to the State of Qatar in relation to knowledge and the natural sciences.
He expressed his thanks to the project partners namely the National Institute for Agricultural Research the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development the French Embassy in Doha Total E&P Qatar and Friends of Environment Centre pointing out that the benefits of the project include the training of Qatari teachers and staff in the field of education in order to pass on knowledge to students. Dr. Al Hajari also referred to the cultural and scientific dimensions of the project saying insects in Qatar and the newly discovered ones will be saved at Qatar National Museum for scientific research and knowledge purposes.
For his part Total E&P Qatar Managing Director Guillaume Chalmin stressed that the patronage of HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani of the congress indicates the importance of the " insects in Qatar" project and the significance of this event for the country .
He expressed pleasure over the company's support for this project to become a partner in the great success it has achieved in terms of collecting documenting and classifying insects in Qatar.(MORE)
