Qatar Academy Sidra Teachers Train For IB Programmes

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Doha April 26 - Qatar Academy Sidra (QA Sidra) teachers took online training for International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP) recently.

The training is part of QA Sidra's bid to seek recognition as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School the Academy said Saturday.

Primary schoolteachers took an introductory course to the PYP curriculum. Middle schoolteachers took subject-specific courses on MYP curriculum.

The Academy is member of Qatar Foundation for Education Science and Community Development. It aims to win recognition as an IB World School.

Qatar currently has 10 IB World Schools. QA Sidra will be one of three schools to offer the PYP MYP and Diploma Programmes (DP) once recognised.

The IB way of teaching aims to develop a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

An IB school prepares students to interact with the world. It encourages them to become active and compassionate lifelong learners.

All IB World Schools complete a globally consistent process that enables them to give an outstanding IB education to its students.

This calls for commitment time and dedication from all sections of the school community the Academy said.

QA Sidra took steps towards becoming an IB World School in September 2013.

Several workshops helped the Academy's staff understand full IB programmes and philosophy.

QA Sidra Academic Affairs Co-ordinator Bengt J. Rosberg said "The prospect of becoming an IB World School excites QA Sidra.

"The Academy remains committed to meeting each challenging task to prove our worth and provide our students with best education available." QA Sidra opened its doors in September 2012 as a part of Qatar Foundation for Education Science and Community Development. The school currently caters to Pre-Kindergarten through to Grade 8.

Each year the school will add one academic grade level. On completion the school will cater for early childhood (six months) through to Grade 12.
