United Nations Concerned Over Ukraine Violence

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) New York April 25 - United Nations Secretary-General Ban Kii-Moon expressed Friday his concern at the increasing violence in the East of Ukraine.

Ukrainian forces moved to the East to clear out pro-Russian separatists that occupied a number of key buildings killing two in the process yesterday. Russia replied immediately ordered military exercises on the border with Ukraine and Putin warned that the situation would deteriorate if Ukraine continued its attack against the pro-Russia separatists.

Moon said that he was concerned that the killings would increase instability and create an atmosphere of fear in the country. He called on all parties concerned to renew their commitment to the Geneva agreement and avoid military operations at all costs.

The Geneva agreement was signed April 17 between Russia United States European Union and Ukraine. It states that all armed groups including those who have seized the buildings must return home with immediate effect.
