(MENAFN - Qatar News Agency) Doha April 24 - Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) Authority's first Five-a-side Football Tournament is displaying dribbling skills of executives from Doha's financial district.

The unique corporate tournament opened here Wednesday night at Sherborne Qatar School near Education City.

Senior representatives from QFC and QFC-licensed firms comprising more than 270 players in 20 teams are competing in the final schedule QFC Authority said.

The tournament is the first opportunity of its kind for QFC-licensed firms and QFC entities to network on the football field outside routine business.

QFC Authority Deputy CEO Yousef Mohammed Al Jaida said "We are excited to have devised and launched this tournament. Sport is a significant part of the Qatar National Vision 2030.

"Held in the spirit of National Sport Day the QFC Authority Football Tournament is the first opportunity of its kind for QFC-licensed firms to network outside normal business. It expands the QFC's world-class environment beyond the four walls of the office to encompass the more informal side of working together."A team from the QFC Authority another from the QFC Regulatory Authority along with 18 more teams formed from employees of QFC-licensed firms are in the fray.

For ten weeks teams will play every Wednesday evening at the Sherborne Qatar School ground culminating with the semi-finals and finals in June.

The competing teams are:-Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank Al Tamimi and Company International American Life Insurance Company (MetLife Alico) Bank Audi BLOM Bank Qatar Citibank N.A. GlobeMed Qatar ICBC International Financial Services Marsh Brokers Ltd Pinsent Masons PricewaterhouseCoopers - Qatar Qatar First Bank Qatar Holding QFC Authority QFC Regulatory Authority QInvest Q-RE Reed Personnel Services Qatar and SEIB Insurance and Reinsurance Company.
