(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The Italian warship ITS Mimbelli, currently deployed in NATO's counter-piracy Ocean Shield mission, recently visited Muscat.
According to a release from NATO's Maritime Command, Capt Davide Berna, the Mimbelli's commanding officer, met several Omani authorities, including H E Said al Busaidi, deputy governor of Muscat, during the visit. A delegation from the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) also visited the Mimbelli to discuss counter-piracy tactics and share views on operations in the area.
''Cooperation ashore with regional nations is as important as cooperation at sea to ensure safety of navigation in this part of the world. The level of support provided by the government of Oman makes a significant difference for the success of the mission,'' said Capt Berna.
The meetings come after a series of counter-piracy exercises conducted at sea by another ship attached to NATO's Ocean Shield deployment, the ESPS Cristobal Colon, and the RNO corvette Al Shamaikh.
