Pakistan- Government, Taliban committees meet to discuss peace talks


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The members of the committees of Pakistan government and Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), formed to hold talks, met on Wednesday to discuss the peace process in federal capital Islamabad, said officials. The Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan chaired the meeting discussing issues related to the creation of peace zone, release of non-combatant prisoners and extension in ceasefire by TTP. It was the first meeting of the committees after the announcement of ending the ceasefire by TTP. The head of the TTP nominated committee, Maulana Samiul Haq in a statement after the meeting said that an atmosphere of confidence and trust was prevailing on both the sides. He further that said the two committees have agreed to form a new subcommittee to address reservations shown by both sides. "We will ask the Taliban leadership for steps that can prove productive for restoration of peace in the country," he added. Earlier on Wednesday, the Interior Minister met Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to brief the premier on the latest developments in the dialogue. Pakistan has been facing militants' insurgency where the outlawed TTP has been targeting security forces, government installations and civilians for over 7 years. Pakistan government has initiated peace talks with TTP by forming committee to end the bloody insurgency against the state that killed thousands of civilians and security forces personnel. TTP announced month long ceasefire and extended it for another 10 days that ended on April 10. TTP spokesperson announced not to extend the ceasefire blaming the government that it had failed to respond positively to the ceasefire.
