Eurozone Consumer Confidence Shoots Up to Six-Year High

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) ussels April 23 - Consumer confidence in the Eurozone has risen to its highest level in six-and-a-half years a European Commission survey showed Tuesday. That puts the figure at levels last seen before the currency bloc's crippling economic crisis. The indicator based on consumer surveys found that the mood among Eurozone households had jumped to -8.7 up from -9.3 in March. It is the highest level seen since November 2007 according to the European Union's executive. The rise exceeded analysts' expectations. Those at ING bank had been among observers warning that the economic implications of the crisis in Ukraine could "have dented some optimism" in the Eurozone. But the unrest appears to have had little effect so far. In the wider 28-member European Union consumer confidence also continued climbing in April reaching -5.8 up from -6.7 in March. The data was the latest in a spate of positive economic news for the 18-country Eurozone which pulled out of recession in the second quarter of last year.
