India, China discuss maintaining peace on borders


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) India and China Tuesday held discussions on enhancing peace and tranquility along the disputed Line of Actual Control (LAC) borders in the capital New Delhi, the Defense Ministry stated. A high level Chinese delegation comprising top Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) officials arrived in New Delhi on a two-day visit during which they exchanged views with their Indian counterparts over maintenance of peace and tranquility along disputed Line of Actual Control (LAC) border and enhancing mutual cooperation between the armies of India and China, the ministry stated. India shares 4,057-km long disputed border called Line of Actual Control with China running from its north-eastern states to the northern tip of the country in Indian-administered Kashmir The talks have come in the backdrop of the often Indian accusations that Chinese army was repeatedly intruding into their territory in Ladakh area of disputed Kashmir. In April 2013, the Chinese and Indian armies had a three week stand-off following which an agreement led to withdrawal of Chinese army leaving their positions. The ministry stated that the Chinese side was represented by Lieutenant General Qi Jianguo, Deputy Chief of General Staff (Operations), PLA.
