China's Shandong Airlines Orders 50 Boeing 737 Planes


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) nan China April 22 - China's Shandong Airlines will purchase 50 (737) aircraft from Boeing Company for $4.6 Billion a Xinhua news agency report said. Officials from the two companies signed a contract on Monday. Shandong Chairman Ma Chongxian said Boeing would deliver 16 Boeing 737-800s and 34 Boeing 737 MAX planes to the airlines between 2016 and 2020. Based in Jinan capital of east China's Shandong Province the low-cost airlines aims to increase its fleet to over 140 at the end of 2020. Shandong Airlines already operates 74 passenger aircraft including 67 Boeing 737 planes. Increase travel demand is spurring growth of China's budget carriers. Air China China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines dominate China's commercial aviation. On April 16 Boeing delivered its 8000th 737 aircraft (a Next-Generation 737-900 Extended Range) to come off the production line to United Airlines. The 737 is the first commercial airplane in history to reach this delivery milestone. Boeing's 737 programme has a strong backlog with more than 3700 airplanes on order including 1934 orders for the new 737 MAX.
