(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The second GCC Beach Games, which was scheduled to be held in Doha, Qatar in October this year, has been postponed to April 2015.
The decision was taken at the 80th meeting of the executive committee of the presidents of the GCC National Olympic Committees (NOC) in Kuwait City, Kuwait on Sunday.
The executive committee decided to postpone the Games following a request from the Qatar Olympic Committee.
Also at the summit, the GCC Camels Committee won the GCC Sports Organising Committee award, while the GCC Swimming Committee, which is based in Muscat, was declared runner-up.
The winners of the third GCC Sport and Environment award were also announced, with the GCC Volleyball Organising Committee claiming the first place. The Bahrain Athletics Association took second place, followed by the GCC Basketball Organising Committee in third.
Other key topics highlighted at the meeting included a report presented by the Saudi Arabia's Olympic Committee on its country's campaign to host the second GCC Games from October 18-28, 2015.
Following Sunday's executive committee meeting, Khalid al Zubair, the chairman of the Oman Olympic Committee (OOC), attended the meeting of the NOC chiefs on Monday.
That meeting was part of an annual GCC summit organised to boost ties among the NOCs in the Gulf region.
Sheikh Talal al Ahmed al Sabah, president of the Kuwait Olympic Committee, chaired the meeting.
It was attended by Prince Nawaf bin Faisal al Saud of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed al Maktoum of UAE, Qatar's Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman al Thani, Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad al Khalifa of Bahrain and Zubair.
The meeting was followed by the awards ceremony to honour winners of the GCC Sport Organising Committees awards and the Sport and Environment awards.
