(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MoAF) will announce the results of an agricultural census on Wednesday, at a press conference to be held under the auspices of H E Dr Fuad bin Jaafar bin Mohammed al Sajwani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries.
More than 1,000 people, including MoAF officials and citizens, helped collect the data. The census will have information about the basic infrastructure of the agricultural sector (both plants and livestock).
Data will be used to formulate strategies for developing the agricultural sector, and planning services and activities for farmers and livestock breeders.
The census will provide scientific statistical references for researchers and investors in various fields of the agricultural sector. It will also provide planners with statistics on different components, such as the number of date palms and other varieties of trees. Information regarding fruits, vegetables, livestock and agricultural holdings will also feature in the data.
The census aims at evaluating the current situation and developing plans and programmes.
It will also provide data to facilitate the issue of identification cards, agricultural cards, payrolls, and certificates of entitlements for farmers, livestock breeders, investors and workers in the field of agriculture.
