Jordan King Meets Australian Foreign Minister


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) man April 21 - Jordan King Abdullah II met here on Monday with Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop who is currently visiting Amman. During the meeting they discussed bilateral relations and ways of enhancing them in various field mainly in tourism sector and work to increase investments. The King spoke about the important role that Australia could play as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in supporting efforts to achieve security and stability in the Middle East. On Syria the King stressed the need for resolving the Syrian crisis through a political and transitional solution that preserves the unity of Syria and its people. He also spoke about the burdens being borne by Jordan as a result of hosting large numbers of Syrian refugees. On the peace process King Abdullah underlined the importance of the international community continuing to support peace talks between the Palestinian and the Israelis. Any solution he said should be based on the two-state formula the international legitimacy resolution and the Arab Peace Initiative to establish a viable and independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. The visiting Australian official on her part valued the role Jordan plays in the region noting that her country was interested in boosting ties with Jordan in various domains. Australia she said is currently studying increasing support for the Syrian refugees mainly in health and education.
