Qatar's surplus cement kept as buffer

(MENAFN) Chairman and managing director of Qatar National Cement Company (QNCC) said that the company is now capable of covering all domestic demand for cement, as it is set to increase its daily production by 18,000 tones, The Peninsula Qatar reported. Qatar is planning to keep this surplus production as buffer stocks, without exporting the extra quantity, he declared, adding that "we will not hesitate to import if the situation demands." He also mentioned that the country once imported cement at a rate of 16,000 tons per day when the domestic demand increased. Saudi Arabia and UAE, Qatar's GCC neighbors, are its preferred countries of imports. "We will be also looking for importing cements from India, China, Egypt and Yemen," he added.
