(MENAFN) #Qatar has decided to reduce the number of stadiums to be built for the World Cup by a third due to increased costs and delays, Arabian Business reported.

It was reported that #Qatar has been negotiating with FIFA to cut the number of stadiums it will construct for the event.

The organizing committee's senior manager for projects sd that #Qatar had originally announced that it will build 12 stadiums for the World Cup, but that number was reduced to 8 stadiums.


The Gulf nation has allocated over USD200 billion for infrastructure projects for the event, including USD34 billion on a rail and metro system and USD7 billion and USD17 billion on a port and airport, respectively.
