Canadian retailer eyes GCC

canada’s specialty fashion retailer le chateau is keen to expand in gulf countries after a successful foray into the middle east by opening its first flagship store in dubai according to its top officials.

le chateau brand-name merchandise is sold exclusively through its 249 retail locations in canada new york city and the middle east.

the canadian brand selected dubai-based multi-retail conglomerate apparel group for its entry into the regional market and it has stores at key locations in the uae and qatar.

in addition to the uae le chateau has only one store in qatar but it is planning to have presence in all gulf countries.

“we are looking at bahrain oman kuwait and another in qatar” le chateau marketing director paolo volpe told khaleej times during his recent visit to dubai.

volpe didn’t disclose any timeframe for the expansion in gulf but said two more stores are expected to be opened this year. talking about dubai he mentioned that it is one of the fashion regions of the world and this is the place to have presence.

he appreciated the apparel group’s support for the brand saying: “we are fortunate to get right partner which understands everything without saying that makes our life easy.”

le chateau he said is a 55-year old brand and 80 per cent of its collection targets women and 20 per cent to men. “around 30 per cent of our products are made in canada” he added. talking further on the brand he said le chateau offers everything to women from head to toe and the brand offers 40 collections throughout the year.

“we have a team of 40 designers and they travel all across the world to see what customers want. we believe fashion should be original and not just copy-and-paste.”

volpe was in town along with le chateau manager for international business development robyn bultz to launch the spring/summer 2014 collection.

bultz said that spring/summer collection brings the modern woman a runway-inspired collection of wearable and splurge-worthy styles perfect for their action-packed lifestyle. spring’s career collection is all about sleek and sharp suiting pieces softened by sugary hints of the moment’s must-have hues: mint lemon and blush. for a fresh outlook on boardroom dressing mix-and-match chic separates or slip into an effortless shift dress she added.
