(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) With the theme Together Towards Safe Food', the Food Safety Week will begin at Al Bustan Palace, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel, on Sunday.

The event will bring Oman's food industry leaders and relevant sector professionals to discuss related issues.

Giving high importance to food safety and to increase awareness on health aspects, the Council of Ministers at its April 2013 meeting approved the Food Safety Week to be an annual event to be organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources (MRMWR) alongside other governmental agencies.

The organising committee, which includes members from MRMWR, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, ROP, the Public Authority for Consumer Protection, The Research Council, Dhofar and Muscat municipalities, the Sultan Qaboos University and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, in a joint stateent said that the aim is to promote consumer awareness while fostering cooperation and collaboration between government and food business operators in order to improve food safety practices in the sultanate.

A pre-conference workshop will take place on Monday and will cover topics focusing on food safety and HACCP standards, improvements, development and implementation.

From April 22 to 23, the conference will discuss challenges to food safety. It will also focus on topics related to local, regional and international regulations and global standards with the aim to strengthen food safety norms implementation in the country.

From April 21 to 23, an exhibition area will be available for sponsors, supporting organisations and companies from Oman and overseas offering delegates an insight into the latest technologies, services and products.

The event will conclude on April 24.
