(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The supreme court on friday dismissed a petition filed by pakistan tehreek-i-insaaf (pti) chairman imran khan challenging the appointment of syed qamar zaman former interior secretary as chairman of the national accountability bureau.
the apex court rejected the argument that constitutional provision regarding consultation between the prime minister and the leader of the opposition in the national assembly for the appointment of chairman of country’s top anti-corruption organisation had not been strictly followed.
the court further turned down the contention by imran’s counsel hamid ali khan that qamar zaman was still a government servant when he was appointed chairman thus violating another constitutional provision.
the court upheld arguments by nab counsel chaudhry aitzaz ahsan that appropriate consultations had been done and qamar had retired as interior secretary a day before that.
