Royal Navy of Oman, NATO hold exercises

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) and NATO's Combined Task Force (CTF) 508 maritime security mission conducted a series of anti-piracy exercises in regional waters recently.

Following its departure from Salalah, NATO's frigate ESPS Cristobal Colon met up with RNO's Khareef-class corvette Al Shamikh to conduct training and communication exercises.

The activities also included a boarding exercise during which Al Shamikh acted as a merchant vessel while officers of ESPS Cristobal Colon performed a boarding operation to verify the ship's documentation and cargo.

Rear Admiral Diaz del Rio, commander of CTF 508, said, ''These exercises with RNO demonstrate the different levels of cooperation that are necessary to effectively combat piracy. We need to maintain a constant dialogue with both regional players and other naval task forces to ensure that our approach is truly comprehensive.''
