Bomb Blast Kills Police Officer in Cairo


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) iro April 19 - An Egyptian police officer was killed last night when a bomb targeting a traffic police kiosk in Cairo exploded security officials said. The explosion rocked the busy Lebanon Square in Cairo's Mohandessin district on Friday killing Mohammed Gamal Eddin Egypt's interior ministry reported. A security official said that the bomb was planted inside the traffic post. A second official also said that unidentified assailants hurled the bomb from a bridge over the traffic post before fleeing. Three other people were injured in the attack including a senior police officer. Security forces sealed off said the area while searching for more bombs. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Last Tuesday two bomb blasts wounded six people including at least two policemen in Cairo. On April 2 a police general was killed when three bombs exploded in front of Cairo University.
