League one wrap: brentford secure promotion

(MENAFN- Kora) After missing out twice in the previous campaign mark warburton's men sealed the second automatic promotion spot in league one thanks to an alan judge penalty.

the irish midfielder converted from the spot on the half hour on saturday and although he missed a second chance from 12 yards brentford held on while their rivals all lost.

brentford needed leyton orient and rotherham united to fall to defeat in order to secure their place in the second tier of english football for the first time since 1993.

wolves who have already sealed an immediate championship return were involved in a 10-goal thriller at molineux with rotherham the league leaders finishing up 6-4 winners.

nouha dicko struck a hat-trick for the hosts in a game that saw five goals in the final 10 minutes of the match with kieran agard also netting a treble for the visitors.

leyton orient saw their hopes of automatic promotion go up in smoke as they lost 2-1 at crawley town.

russell slade's side have lost form at the wrong time and have now won just one of their last seven games.

gwion edwards and andy drury were on target for crawley who stay in the top half of the table while orient will have to settle for the play-offs despite being early frontrunners this term.

they will be joined by preston north end and rotherham but the final play-off place remains very much up for grabs after sixth-placed peterborough united went down 1-0 at bradford city.

adam reach's superb free-kick proved enough to see off a peterborough side who had shaun brisley sent off in the first half.

swindon town are now four points behind peterborough following a 2-1 win over coventry city sealed by michael smith's late winner while port vale kept their slender promotion hopes alive with a 1-0 win over mk dons.

at the bottom crewe alexandra leapt out of the bottom four courtesy of a 3-1 win over fellow strugglers shrewsbury.

fellow strugglers notts county and stevenage both lost while carlisle united slipped into the relegation zone after their 1-1 draw with walsall.

county were beaten 2-1 by bristol city at ashton gate while john mousinho's early own goal condemned stevenage to a 1-0 defeat at sheffield united.

tranmere rovers and colchester united are still desperately in need of points after they both lost on friday.

two goals in the final 12 minutes gave gillingham a 2-0 win over tranmere while connor brown's strike on the brink of half-time gave oldham athletic a 1-0 win over colchester.
