(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) Inflation in dubai rose to 2.

however on a month-on-month basis dubai’s inflation declined 0.4 per cent in march from 3.4 per cent in february.

overall in the uae inflation surged to 0.2 per cent month on month and 1.9 per cent year on year in march from 0.1 per cent and 1.8 per cent respectively in february.

rising housing costs contributed the most to fuelling inflation last month. with the biggest weighting in the index at 39 per cent housing costs rose 0.6 per cent month on month and 2.4 per year on year.

dubai statistics centre data shows that costs of housing water electricity and gas rose by 4.38 per cent; food and non-alcoholic beverages by 4.04 per cent; education by 3.99 per cent; alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 3.33 per cent; health by 1.93 per cent; restaurants and hotels by 1.67 per cent; miscellaneous goods and services by 1.22 per cent; furnishings household equipment and routine household maintenance by 1.16 per cent; transport by 0.85 per cent and recreation and culture increased by 0.42 per cent. while the prices of other groups including clothing and footwear fell by 2.83 per cent and communication by 0.10 per cent.

according to national bureau of statistics the cpi for march at the national level indicated increases in major expenditure groups: beverages and tobacco 0.92 per cent; furniture and household goods 0 .86 per cent; housing 0.56 per cent; textiles clothing and footwear 0.27 per cent; medical care 0.22 per cent; transportation 0.17 per cent; recreation and culture 0.02 per cent; restaurants and hotels 0.01 per cent. there was a drop 0.39 per cent in other major expenditure group of food and soft drinks.
