Omani youths have started opting for jobs in private sector, says Sayyid Faisal

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Omani youths have started opting for private sector jobs over government ones, according to H H Sayyid Faisal bin Turki al Said, director general of marketing and media, Public Authority for Investment Promotion and Export Development.

Sayyid Faisal was addressing a gathering at the fifth career fair organised by Waljat College of Applied Sciences (WCAS) at its campus in Knowledge Oasis Muscat on Wednesday.

He said, ''There was a time when most youths preferred government jobs over private sector ones and the reasons were many - from less working hours, job security to holidays. However, the scene has slowly started to charge as private sector companies too are offering similar privileges to attract Omani youths.

''Here, higher education institutions, too can play an important role by mentoring students about opportunities in different sectors of the national economy.''

Sayyid Faisal said that professional colleges should attract small and mid-level organisations rather than focusing only on big firms during career fairs. ''Of late, several small and medium enterprises are doing roaring business and they are always in need of people. These companies too should be invited at these fairs as they can become excellent launchpad for the careers of many jobseekers.''
