Students from All Corners of the Globe Will Be Honoured At Canadian University of Dubai Graduation Ceremony

(MENAFNEditorial) Students from all corners of the globe will receive their undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate qualifications at the Canadian University of Dubai's 2014 Graduation Ceremony, underlining the diversity of the university and the UAE. Almost 500 students, representing 70 countries, will be honoured at Canadian University of Dubai's fourth graduation ceremony held at Dubai World Trade Centre on Saturday 26thApril at 5pm, broadcast Live by Sama Dubai. It is another significant milestone in the history of Canadian University of Dubai and Dubai's journey towards establishing itself as a hub for education in the region. The progress of the Canadian University of Dubai reflects the significant growth of education in Dubai. Mr Buti Saeed Al Ghandi, Chancellor of the Canadian University of Dubai, established the institution in 2006 under parent company Dubai Education as one of just 50 educational institutions in Dubai - now there are over 120. In 2006, 12 students started the first semester at Canadian University of Dubai. That number has grown to almost 2,800 students today, all of whom have the opportunity to study in Canada as part of their course. Highlighting the growth and quality of education at the university and in Dubai in general, Mr Buti, said: "The education landscape has changed dramatically since we established the university seven years ago. I would say that in the past five years the education sector has outgrown the growth of Dubai. "They say that education is recession-proof, and that proof is in Canadian University of Dubai, in the number of students that has increased year-on-year even during the hardship time." The Canadian University of the Dubai's recipe for success is simple: create global citizens who are capable of doing the jobs that exist in the local and regional markets. By hiring staff and faculty from the best universities in Canada and the rest of the world, Canadian University of Dubai has been able to deliver first class education and greater job opportunities by creating courses that follow Dubai Government initiatives and the vision for the region. Mr Buti believes every university has a responsibility to help its students by supporting national and international initiatives. "It should be a mandate by all universities to support not just the job market in the region but also the aspirations of the students, the UAE and the region," he said. "The university we started was mainly for engineering and environment and health, taking into consideration the construction and development the UAE and Dubai was going through. We fit into the vision because we saw the need for the engineers, architects and business leaders of tomorrow that could fulfil the need of the local market. "It's very important to what we do. Ever since the Smart Government initiative and the plan to establish Dubai as the centre of Islamic Banking we have supported every government initiative in terms of creating the best programme with the best professors and providing facilities that will enable those initiatives to be fulfilled. "Education in Dubai has a very solid platform for the future which will only get stronger through the Minister of Higher Education and as Dubai expands through the CAA. "All the foundations have been laid for a very bright future and if you look at the phenomenal growth in students and universities it is becoming a hub for education as well as for finance and tourism."
