Chinese, Russian FMs discuss Ukraine


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov called for the interests of all parties in the in Ukraine's crisis to be respected, state-run China Central Television reported Wednesday

Wang and Lavrov held talks in Beijing on Tuesday ahead of upcoming talks between Russia, the US, the EU and Ukraine, aimed at resolving the current tension

"I think the key to solving the problems in Ukraine, is to understand its complicated history and take into account the rights and demands of all ethnic groups in all regions. Only by doing this might we be able to bring long-lasting stability and peace to Ukraine," Wang said at a joint press conference with Lavrov after their meeting

"Whether the upcoming four-way dialogue will work, depends on whether it reflects all the reasonable interests and concerns of all parties. We hope this multilateral mechanism can achieve a solution that's acceptable to all," said Wang

For his part, Lavrov said, "Russia firmly believes that it's not acceptable to solve the problems in Ukraine by force. Real constitutional reforms should be implemented to solve the issue. And the interests of all parties should be taken into account." According to state-run Xinhua News Agency, during their meeting, the two sides agreed to fully prepare for Russian President Putin's state visit to China and his attendance at the Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia in Shanghai next month. Wang also told Lavrov that the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership is of great meaning and strategic significance, and China is ready to continue mutual support and strategic collaboration with Russia

Lavrov vowed joint efforts with China to fulfill goals and tasks set by both presidents, urging continued close communication, cooperation and mutual safeguarding of international order

Lavrov held separate talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday, in which he briefed Xi about Russia's stance on the Ukraine issue, Xinhua said, adding that Xi also elaborated on China's position on the issue
