(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) on Monday celebrated the arrival of its first military cargo aircraft as per the contract with US-based Lockheed Martin on supply of a group of such aircraft.
The contract is part of RAFO's acquisition plans to carry out its missions. The ceremony marking arrival of the aircraft at Seeb Air Base was held under the patronage of Air Vice Marshal Mattar bin Ali al Obaidani, commander of RAFO, in the presence of several RAFO officers.
Air Vice Marshal Obaidani said that the aircraft is a value addition to RAFO's capabilities and comes in line with the upgradation and development plans witnessed by Sultan's Armed Forces (SAF).
He added that this type of aircraft will meet SAF's training needs and will be of help during natural disasters and adverse weather conditions. ''In addition to acquiring fighter jets, helicopters and transport aircrafts, other plans are in the pipeline to modernise RAFO,'' he added.
