DFM Stock Game commences with the participation of 3233 students


(MENAFNEditorial) Dubai Financial Market (DFM) today inaugurated its Annual Stock Game with the participation of 3233 students from schools and universities in the UAE and beyond. The number of participants in the 12th round is 35% up compared to the 2013 competition. The Stock Game, which runs until April 29th 2014, attracted students from 40 educational institutions. 8 foreign educational institutions from outside the UAE are taking part, 4 of them are for the first time namely; The Kingdom University from Bahrain, The German-Jordanian University from Jordan, Indira Institute of Management from India and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from the United States.



The previous 11 rounds of the competition have attracted 19227 of participants representing 268 educational institutions. Each contestant will receive one million Dirham to virtually buy and sell shares listed on DFM through its website, based on live prices during trading hours



Jamal Ibrahim Al Khadhar, Senior Vice President, Head of Strategic Planning and Human Resources Division, DFM said: "Over the last 11 years the competition has proved to be the most popular financial initiative for students in the country, with a large increase in the numbers taking part and huge interest from the educational community. The DFM Stock Game gives students the chance to sharpen their skills and exhibit their talents. This initiative is DFM's response to the need to spread an investment culture amongst the younger generation and develop their abilities, as a pillar of human resources development in the UAE. We are delighted to see the DFM Stock Game gains momentum each year. Undoubtedly, the participation of new educational institutions reinforces the competition's ability to outreach a wider base within the educational community as this initiative is aimed to spread investment culture amongst the younger generation and develop their abilities.



The winner of the game will be the student who has the most virtual money. The winner will receive a cash prize of AED 15,000, while second place wins AED 10,000 and third place AED 5,000. A total of AED 1,000,000 will be distributed between students in 4th-13th place.
