EU, Tunisia endorse Action Plan to deepen ties


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The European Union and Tunisia Monday initialled a Protocol on Framework Agreement on participation of Tunisia in EU programmes with the aim to sign it before the summer

"Since new EU programmes have now been approved recently and their implementation is just beginning, it is a perfect time for Tunisia to become involved in EU programs," EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, Stefan Fule, told a press conference after a meeting of the 10 th EU-Tunisia Association Council in Luxembourg tonight

"We have achieved a more intense technical and financial cooperation. Our assistance reached 485 million euro in 2011-2013, more than twice than originally envisaged," he said. "Today, we endorsed the EU-Tunisia Action Plan for a privileged partnership and its matrix which will provide us with an operational roadmap for our bilateral relations in the next years," added Fule

On his part, Faycal Gouia , Tunisian State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, said EU and Tunisia will strengthen their partnership by endorsing the Action Plan

Dimitris Kourkoulas, Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed that EU-Tunisia "relations are excellent

"We are fully committed to strengthening and deepening our partnership. Tunisia is a key partner of the EU and the region of South Mediterranean and the meeting today allow not only taking note on the progress achieved in the different areas of our bilateral relations and cooperation but to pay the way for new perspectives of our partnership over the medium term," he told the joint press conference
