Biden to cheer on US team in Brazil


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The White House announced on Monday that Vice President Joe Biden will be heading to Brazil for the FIFA World Cup in June, where he is expected to attend one of the US national team's games

In 2010, Biden led the US delegation to the games in South Africa

Secretary of State John Kerry, as well as members of the US team, joined Biden earlier in the day to unveil the World Cup trophy at the Department of State; part of its world tour ahead of the summer tournament

In his remarks, Kerry said the golden trophy "represents the shared hopes and dreams of billions of people around the world." Kerry also talked about the US-Brazil relationship, calling it a "natural" partnership "in so many ways

"Despite occasional differences that rise to the surface, we have a huge shared commitment to democracy, to diversity, and a determination to increase the opportunities for our people," he said

The US fell into a tough group at the 2014 World Cup, with soccer powerhouses Ghana, Germany and Portugal all looking to break through the first round
