Omani Society for Hearing Impaired calls for more support

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The Omani Society for Hearing Impaired held its official launch at the Al Noor Hall in Madinat as Sultan Qaboos on Sunday and invited more people to get associated with it.

The programme was conducted by a member of the organisation in sign language. He explained the goals of the organisation and the steps it has taken in this regard.

The association, which is working towards integrating more people with hearing impairment into mainstream society, has tied up with various ministries and private enterprises.

It aims to make those with hearing impairment self-reliant by teaching them sign language.

Fahad al Raisi, vice president, of the society said, ''Our aim is to encourage more people with  hearing impairment so that they can be independent. We have been working towards this cause for the past three years.''

A member of the society gave a presentation with the help of a voice-over.

The organisation is training  its members to secure jobs at ministries and in the private sector. ''There is no point in providing such training if it is not put to use. They need to work and handle responsibilities in mainstream society.  It will help make them become self-confident. Having hearing impairment should not stop them from leading a normal life. The training will help them in all aspects of their life,'' added Raisi.<
