Oman's Dar al Atta'a hands Syrian refugees RO60,152 cheque


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Four members of the charitable organisation, Dar al Atta'a recently returned from the Zaatari Refugee Camp in Jordan after handing over a cheque of RO60,152 to Syrian refugees.

Dar al Atta'a had raised the money between December and January. May al Bayat, marketing director of Dar al Atta'a said, ''The collected amount was handed over to the Oman Charitable Organisation (OCA). Members of both OCA and Dar al Atta'a handed over the cheque to the camp in-charge during a recent visit.

''We have raised funds for similar causes in the past as well, but this was the first time that our members visited a country to hand over the money to the affected people.'' May said that the camp in-charge has a list of refugee families which are given allowances twice a week to meet basic expenses.

The Dar al Atta'a delegation was led by its chairperson Maryam al Zadjali, Nada al Jamaly, head of the families committee, Ekhlas al Hashmi, head of the media committee and Lubna al Kharusi, the treasurer.

May said, ''The trip was an eye-opener for our members as they got a first-hand account of the conditions of Syrian refugees. People made online contributions, bank transfers and cash donations in our office.''
