TRA emphasizes the importance of every vote for shortlisted Emirati projects in WSIS Project Prizes 2014


(MENAFNEditorial) The Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) has renewed its call for all citizens and residents of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to vote for the ten Emirati projects shortlisted for the 'WSIS Project Prizes 2014' before the deadline on April 18th, 2014. The ten UAE based projects progressed through to the second phase of the international competition having been reviewed by an 'Expert Group' who qualified each submission in accordance with competition terms, conditions and nomination criteria. The winning projects will be selected pending the results of online public vote



"The ten UAE based initiatives that have reached this stage in the competition have done incredibly well - especially given the quality of this year's submissions. With such a strong UAE presence in the second phase, we look forward to the prospect of progressing even further and showcasing to the world, the UAE's commitment to transform Government service delivery through technology," said H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General and Chairman of the WSIS National Committee



"As official body in charge of coordinating the UAE's involvement in the competition, the TRA WSIS Team will continue to support all nominated projects and help generate public awareness of the competition's significance by stressing the importance of each vote in increasing the chances of UAE projects winning - our main objective," he added



The WSIS forum provides an important platform for communication and networking between different countries of the world with the aim of coordinating efforts in the field of communications and information technology. ITU Member States recognize the importance of the modern technology revolution and the need to come with a shared vision and unified global dialogue. All countries declared their commitment to move forward towards achieving the ultimate goals endorsed by the Summit in 2003 and 2005, as well as the Millennium Development Goals which serve as the framework for advancing knowledge societies and towards a better future



At the local level, the UAE is committed to achieving a fully-fledged Information Society by taking into account all of the WSIS recommendations. The main role of the WSIS National Commission is to follow up on the implementation of the WSIS recommendations and action lines before 2015 deadline in coordination with all UAE government entities.
