(MENAFN - Arab News) A criminal court in riyadh on sunday issued its verdicts sentencing 13 people to varying jail terms from one to 10 years and acquitting seven others. the men were convicted of charges of financing fighters outside the kingdom by giving them huge amounts of money using a charitable organization as a cover and supporting al-qaeda's terrorist operations
The public prosecutor also charged them with giving shelter to terror suspects wanted by the saudi security authorities collecting donations illegally possessing weapons and ammunition and trying to produce weapons using laser technology for application in iraq
The verdicts were issued in the presence of defendants and their relatives and lawyers an official statement said. the defendant no. 1 was sentenced to seven years in prison and will not be allowed to leave the kingdom for seven years after serving his term. defendant no. 2 has to spend 10 years in prison and will be banned from traveling abroad for an equal number of years the statement said
Defendant no. 3 was sentenced to three years and will be banned from travel for three years and fined sr50000. defendant no. 4 was jailed for three years and fined sr80000. he will not be allowed to travel for three years
Defendant no. 5 was sentenced to four years defendant no. 6 for three years defendant no. 7 to five years defendant no. 9 to five years defendants no. 10 11 and 12 to four years each defendant no. 14 to two years and defendant no. 15 to one year. defendants no. 8 13 16 17 18 20 and 22 were acquitted for lack evidence.
