(MENAFN - Arab News) The electricity regulatory commission (erc) announced on sunday new regulations that will guarantee the rights of tenants who are leasing houses from other landlords. it said that the electricity invoice will be issued in the name of the tenant who is actually occupying the apartment.
Rahman al-muhazi'i director general for legal affairs at erc said that 4 new companies will be established to generate power in addition to another company to handle distribution systems.
Erc also unveiled a memorandum of understanding with the saudi electric company (sec) regarding the restructuring of the company's units and operations in order to create separate entities within the sec to serve the objectives of the power grid better
Talking to a local paper mr. al muhazi'i did not give an effective date to tie in the power bill with the actual tenant. but he did say that there are now two forms of power connection agreements. one is for the connection itself and the other for consumption. 'the guidelines for providing the electrical service have been discussed with sec and they will be adopted shortly" he said
'we issued 38 licenses for the various electrical activities and we also issued 19 types of waivers in these activities 13 of which are for power generation plants 5 for multiple production plants and one waiver for a water desalination plant" he said.
He said that the gcc power connection grid has resulted in fewer cases of total power failure. 'the system provides instant support in case of power failure. losses from power failures depend on the size of the power grid and the duration of the power failure but they can range from 100 million dollars for smaller systems to a few billion dollars for larger systems. however countries can now install larger power generators which translate into bigger savings when building new power generating plants" he said.
