(MENAFN - Arab News) The saudi commission for tourism and antiquities (scta) launched the 21st tourist media convoy on friday to document the antiquities and rich cultural heritage of taif

“about 45 prominent saudi professional and amateur photographers from youtube representing different regions of the kingdom will participate in the convoy” said majed al-sheddi scta director-general of information and public relations

“this year it is devoted to document the antiquity and nature of taif” he said

The convoy aims to highlight the unique tourist sites in taif municipality as well as to introduce the urban progress and achievements in this part of the kingdom besides encouraging and supporting amateur and professional photographers in promoting tourism and use their images in the scta’s photo gallery

The tourist media convoy a regular media activity carried out by the scta has achieved remarkable success in promoting tourism and heritage sites in the kingdom

The media convoy enjoys special support of prince sultan bin salman president of scta as it reflects his interest in encouraging photography as a hobby in the kingdom as well benefiting tourism from it

Al-sheddi said that because of the commission’s belief in the power of the image which is considered one of the most important tools in tourism marketing it launched last year “the photography convoy.” this year it organized the “colors of saudi arabia forum.&rdquo

He said the selection of taif reflects scta’s support for “the capital of arab resorts” in light of the various heritage and tourism sites located in the region. he added that the commission plans to organize more such convoys of photographers to visit different parts of the kingdom in the coming months

Al-sheddi commended the role played by photographers in highlighting the saudi heritage and tourism sites across the kingdom through high-quality images

Over the last few years the scta has launched 20 media convoys comprising more than 750 media personnel from within and outside the kingdom who have covered different parts of saudi arabia.
