Opposition stops German-Saudi tank deal

(MENAFN) Due to opposition from Social Democrat Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel, sale of German battle tanks to Saudi Arabia is most likely to be cancelled, as reposted in Arabian Business.

A Saudi interest in buying up to 800 Leopard 2 tanks from Germany has been reported by German media, which has never been confirmed due to its sensitivity

Newspapers claimed that Saudi Arabia tried for years to strike a deal with German firms such as Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and Rheinmetall with a budget of USD25 billion

"The government will not approve the disputed export," local newspaper reported, citing government sources
