Macedonians Vote for New President


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) opje April 13 - Macedonians were voting for the country's new president Sunday with the incumbent and his main challenger certain to go to the run-off in two weeks. Opinion polls predicted a race between President Gorge Ivanov and the candidate of the opposition Social Democrats Stevo Pendarovski. Opinion polls gave Pendarovski a slight lead over Ivanov who was backed by the ruling conservative VMRO-DPMNE party the (dpa) reported. For a first-round triumph the winner must collect more than 50% of all registered votes. With that out of reach the second-round is certain to take place on April 27. The two remaining candidates Zoran Popovski and Ilaz Halimi were so far behind that they were given no chance of reaching the second round according to the dpd
