(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The Ministry of Social Development, represented by the Child Care Centre, in association with the Oman Automobile Association (OAA) recently celebrated Arab Orphan Day.
As many as 500 children from different orphanages in the sultanate and the Child Care Centre took part in the event, which is celebrated on the first Friday of every April.
According to a press release, the event was held under the auspices of H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Said bin Saif al Kalbani, Minister of Social Development and in the presence of OAA officials and employees of the various directorates and services.
Retd Brig Salim bin Ali al Maskari, chairman, board of directors, OAA said, ''We are happy that we could bring a smile on the faces of these children. We also appreciate the patronage of H E Kalbani and his support in such endeavours.''
The event saw a number of entertainment activities like face painting and henna design on hands being organised for the children. Among the programmes was the distribution of brochures and pamphlets by NHRC to educate the children about their rights, stated the release.
An introductory lecture was delivered by Aida bint Qasim al Balushi, a social worker. She said in accordance with the regulations issued by Ministerial Decision 125/2009, the ministry aims to provide social and educational care to all orphans so that they can be reintegrated into society.
