Indian SC turns down plea against report on clean chit to Modi

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Even as the gujarat high court on friday adjourned the hearing on a petition filed by zakia jafri widow of the slain congress mp ehsan jafri challenging a lower court?s order upholding a probe agency?s report giving a clean chit to narendra modi in the 2002 communal riots a supreme court ruling has once again given a breather to the gujarat chief minister

The apex court on friday refused to entertain a plea filed by an advocate questioning the special investigation team (sit) probe findings and even declined the appeal to reconstitute sit by involving its retired judges with inclusion of one from the minority community.

Describing the plea as ‘baseless’ and said: “reconstitution of sit at this stage is not good.”

Only last week the supreme court had expressed satisfaction over probes by the sit in nine cases of riots by appreciating the work done by the sit headed by former central bureau of investigation (cbi) director r k raghvan as it perused the sit’s february 27 status report.

The nine cases investigated by the sit included those related to riots in gulbarg society sardarpura naroda gaon naroda patiya machipith ode tarsali pandarwada and raghavapura.
