Dubai will attempt to set a new guinness world record by creating 43 huge flower flags to mark the 43rd national day of the uae the dubai municipality said on saturday. the flower flags will be created in the main locations of the city to achieve the guinness world record in the category of the largest flower flag the public parks and horticulture department of the dubai municipality said in a press statement.



Mohammed abdul rahman al awadi head of horticulture section at the dubai municipality said dubai has already achieved the world record for using flowers and plants to design the logos of international events hosted by the city on different occasions. “the department has written welcome banners for visitors to the city in both arabic and english on many occasions — the first grass design at the roundabout of the commercial centre in 1986 onthe occasion of chess olympiad in dubai; horse race roundabout in nad al sheba; flowers roundabout in al saif street; expo 2020 logo in the uae flag in al garhoud intersection; expo2020 logo in the green area of al rebat road opposite the toyota showroom ... etc” he said.


“the design and implementation of the uae flag was on an area of 2026 square metres using 45660 seedlings of different flower plants. the expo 2020 logo was designed by a special team from horticulture section in 908 square metres using 27240 seedlings of various coloured flowers” he explained.


In preparation to hosting the expo 2020 the civic body announced that the department is gearing up to transform dubai into one of the most beautiful cities of the world. this will be done through excellent designs in gardening landscaping and afforestation.


Earlier this month it was revealed that dubai’s urban development plan aimed to expand the green areas in the emirate to 120000 hectares by 2020.
