Qatar- 300 attend QRC Disaster Management Camp


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Fifth Disaster Management Camp (DMC-5), organised by Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) over 10 days at Al Khor Marine Scout Camp, which was attended by more than 300 from Qatar and outside, concluded on April 10



Held under the auspices of the Prime Minister and Interior Minister, H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, the event was coordinated with several national and international government and nongovernment organisations, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the United Nations, and the Secretariat General of Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf



Among the partners that supported the event were Ras Laffan Community Outreach Programme (COP), Internal Security Force (ISF) € Lekhwiya, Qatar Armed Forces (QAF), Ministry of the Interior, the Permanent Committee for Emergency, Qatar Scouts & Guide Association, Qatar Tourism Authority, Doha Golf Club, Qatar Charity, Qatar Steel, Ooredoo, the Community Police, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Al Rayyan Satellite Channel, and Qatar Petroleum



The main part of the ceremony was a practical intervention scenario of the explosion of gas cylinders at an expatriate housing building in the Industrial Area. Upon receiving the call, the Rescue Police (Al Fazaa) immediately reached the scene of the accident, evaluated the situation, and secured the place.



HMC-QRC ambulances and trained volunteers provided first aid and moved the victims to the field hospital. Lekwhiya and civil defense teams controlled the fire and saved some of the victims from inside their cars, which were damaged by the explosion



There were reported three severe injuries, six moderate injuries, and 15 minor injuries. An HMC air ambulance helicopter took a critically injured case to the hospital, while the remaining victims were settled at sheltering camps. The teams extended psychological support and installed water and sanitation facilities in record time



Dr Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Ali Al Maadheed, QRC Chairman, accompanied the distinguished guests in a tour to watch the field hospital, the Emergency Response Units (ERUs) and water and sanitation disaster response Kit 5, and the information centre



In his keynote speech marking the end of the Camp, Dr Al Maadheed welcomed the attendance, thanked the Prime Minister and sponsors, and congratulated the participants for their praiseworthy efforts.



"You have to know that our duty and mission is to alleviate the pain of others, motivated by our values and ideals, not only loyalty to our organisations," the Chairman told the audience. "Why should I be reactive while I can be proactive? With scientific knowledge, we can build ourselves and or societies as well.



"This Camp seeks to enhance the potential of Qatari citizens and QRC volunteers, to produce a well-trained disaster management cadre and ensure better coordination with peers," said Saleh bin Ali Al Mohannadi, Secretary-General, QRC
