(MENAFN- Arab Times) The "Open Market Project", an all-new and indigenously- owned Small and Medium Scale (SME) industry promotion initiative was launched Saturday at the Kuwait International Fair under the auspices of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The initiative, which aims to bring the best Kuwaiti- owned Small and Medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) together under the same roof, was inaugurated by the deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Commerce and Industries Abdulmohsen Al Modaij
The market will be open on the first Saturday of every month of the year (except in Ramadan) with the view to promoting various types of handicraft and food products. As at the time of the launch, items on exhibition at the seven one stalls of Hall 4A ranged from perfumes, jewellery, flowers, silverware to agricultural produce. The SMEs' young owners have to pay only a symbolic rent worth KD 25 each daily for a four-meter stall where they can display and market their products. The objective of the drastically reduced fees which normally costs the regular exhibitor over KD150 is to make the initiative attract a large number of young Kuwaiti people into private entrepreneurship to the extent where they can be supported materially to grow
