(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Ibrahim al Kulaibi took the top honours in the senior category 5km race at the ninth Oman Open Water Swimming Championship, organised by the Oman Swimming Association (OSA) in Sohar on Saturday.
Ahmed al Falahi finished runner-up, while Jassim al Qutaiti took the third place. In the junior category (15-17 years), Amer al Harthy took first place in the 5km race, followed by Ayoob al Kulaibi.
In the youth category (13-14 years), Bashar al Wahaibi took first place in the 3km race, while Naif al Alawi finished runner-up. Sultan al Kindi came third.
The meet also witnessed national team swimmers taking part in all three events, but it was an unofficial race for them, since they are preparing for the GCC Championship to be held in Bahrain from May 8-10.
In the unofficial senior category, Aiman al Qasmi finished first in the 5km race with Khalid al Kulaibi taking second place and Mohammed al Habsi coming third. In the unofficial junior category (15-17 years), Issa al Adawi took the top honours in the 5km race. Abdurehman al Kulaibi finished runner-up and Sulaiman al Harrasi was third.
In the unofficial youth category (13-14 years), Mohammed al Kulaibi won the race and was followed by Aiham al Ismaili and Imran al Habsi in second and third places, respectively.
H E Sheikh Saad al Saadi, the Minister of Sports Affairs, gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Taha al Kishry, OSA chairman, and other board members.
Also, the national team was felicitated for its performance at the GCC meet last month.
