Indian IT companies seek opportunities in Oman


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The Indian embassy in Muscat organised a business interaction meet last week for the Indian IT companies that participated in Comex 2014.


As many as 15 Indian IT companies showcased their capabilities and expertise in the ICT sector at Comex's India pavilion under the banner of the Electronics and Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) of India.


Dr Salim al Ruzaiqi, CEO of Information Technology Authority (ITA) was the chief guest at the business interaction meet, which was also attend by representatives of Omani IT firms.


The business interaction provided an opportunity to the visiting Indian delegates to share and exchange their views, experiences and expertise in the IT field with their Omani counterparts and businessmen, and also gave an opportunity for interaction to the members of the Omani SME delegation from the OCCI in the IT sector, that had recently visited India.


Speaking at the event, H E J S Mukul, India's Ambassador to Oman, said, ''There are over 1,500 India-Oman joint ventures in the sultanate. Apart from some flagship projects, most of the JVs are in the SME segment, including a number of IT joint ventures.''


H E Mukul said that the ITA is proposing a centre of excellence for mobile application development in Oman, and is looking for cooperation from Indian companies. ''The presence of a strong ESC delegation will also provide an impetus to take such proposals forward. ITA is pioneering a wide range of initiatives and services to improve efficiency, empower individuals and enhance business,'' he said.


H E Mukul said that the feedback indicates that the week-long visit by the 17-member Omani IT delegation to India last month was a huge success. ''IT also constitutes one of the most popular areas for training in India. Of the 150 training slots under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme available for Omanis in 2014-15, a large number will be utilised for IT training.''
