At Least Four Killed in Afghanistan Earthquake


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) bul April 12 - At least four people were killed and more than 100 houses were damaged when an earthquake jolted two villages in north-eastern Afghanistan early Saturday. The powerful quake of 4.1 magnitude according to US Geological Survey (USGS) occurred at 02.30 local time (22.00 GMT) and affected the towns of Mazar Khawaja Khairaq and Pesta in Rustaq district of Takhar province said provincial police spokesman Khalil Asir. "Our initial information says that four villagers have died and more than 100 houses have been damaged" Asir said adding that the rescue teams had been dispatched. "Increases in fatalities and damages are feared" he said. Thousands of people died and went missing in a 1997 quake in the same district
