Arab League Observer Mission Heads to Algeria


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) iro April 11 - An Arab League Observers Mission headed by Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and the Occupied Arab Territories Affairs Ambassador Mohammad Sabih left today to Algeria today to monitor Algeria's presidential elections scheduled for next Thursday. The 133-member mission representing various Arab countries will be deployed in all states of Algeria to prepare a report containing all the observers remark to submit it to Arab League Secretary-General Dr. Nabil Elaraby. Ambassador Sabih said that the participation of Arab League in monitoring the Algerian elections was based on a memorandum of understanding signed by Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra and the Arab League Secretary-General. The memorandum included sending Arab League observers to follow up the Algerian presidential elections. Last month a delegation from the Arab League visited Algeria and met with the judicial commission charged with overseeing the elections and representatives of relevant ministries and the Algerian civil. It was briefed on all documents related to the Algerian constitution the electoral regulations and arrangements for the electoral process
