(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) rlin April 11 - Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi who is on a four-day visit to Germany received an award in Berlin Friday from the Social Democratic Party (SPD) for her life of resisting oppression. The award is named after Willy Brandt the late West German chancellor who fled abroad from the Nazis as a young man and returned to rebuild democracy."Just like him you have resisted the pressure of persecution. Just like him you are fighting for freedom and democracy" Sigmar Gabriel the SPD leader and Germany's deputy chancellor told her during the ceremony. Suu Kyi 68 who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991 spent 15 years under house arrest in Yangon reported German Press Agency dpa. She visited Chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday. Earlier Friday Suu Kyi visited Germany's parliament while it was in session. The deputy speaker Claudia Roth said Suu Kyi was admirable for her courage her integrity and her stamina and wished her success in her "parliamentary actions.
