S.Korean Foreign Minister Warns N. Korea Against 4th Nuclear Test


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) oul April 10 - South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se said North Korea will pay an unimaginable price if it conducts a fourth nuclear test. In a speech at a symposium hosted by the ruling Saenuri Party and relayed by Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) Thursday Yun said the international community has joined forces to not tolerate North Korea's nuclear weapons. He said that includes Chinese President Xi Jinping who has spoken out against additional nuclear tests by Pyongyang. He said instability surrounding nuclear arms and other serious issues in North Korea have grown while asymmetrical provocations by the North have diversified. He added the biggest challenge to the future of the Korean Peninsula is North Korea's obsession with nuclear weapons. Yun said North Korea's leadership must keep in mind that it cannot successfully pursue nuclear weapons and economic development at the same time and Pyongyang must make the right decision at the crossroads between coexistence and isolation. For his part South Korea's Vice Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yong also said at a parliamentary hearing Thursday that South Korea will seek strong additional sanctions from the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) if North Korea goes ahead with a fourth nuclear test. Cho said in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolution 2094 additional nuclear tests by the North will automatically be referred to the council for further measures
