(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) yesterday hosted an Industry Engagement Day to inform engineering and contracting firms of opportunities to participate in one of the country's most technologically advanced infrastructure programme, Sharq Crossing

Comprising three iconic bridges linked with two immersed tunnels and a marine tunnel interchange spanning Doha Bay, the project will connect Hamad International Airport with the city's cultural district of Katara in the north and the downtown central business district of West Bay

Attended by contracting, consulting, operations and maintenance organisations registered in and outside Qatar, the event was also attended by Engineer Nasser bin Ali Al Mawlawi, President, Public Works Authority, and Brigadier Engineer Yacob Al Kazem, Sharq Crossing Programme Director, Ashghal's project team and representatives of Calatrava Mideast Ltd and Fluor Corporation

Work on the project is expected to commence in 2015 and complete by 2021

A comprehensive presentation was given to participants, providing programme-specific information such as proposed works, time-frame, and key implementation considerations. It also covered information on tendering requirements and the procurement strategy for the bidding process. The event provided a central platform for attendees to engage in discussions and open dialogue on the project with Ashghal's project team
